The sun is burning the sweated black skins of a bunch of two dozen people gathered at the back side of a delivery mini truck. A man is standing on it. Throwing food packets. Each person’s hands are waving in his direction as a packet of biscuits is still in the air and everyone’s gaze is fixed on it.

Not far from the mini truck, there is a naked child sitting on the hot and dry land. His soft skin against the eroded surface like butter on a rough toast. He is eating a loaf of bread but you can still see dried tear trails on his both cheeks.

Through STILLS writer would portray various phases and faces of life in the form of stills. Like a photographer. There would be no movement but each element would say its story. There would be no dialogues but emotions would be communicated.

So the concept is very simple. a photographer can capture a moment, but can a writer do the same?

On a plain land where there is no sign of life, not a single one, you just follow hard terra firma, dry and cracked. The continuity of dead land is being broken by a tree in the middle of the plain land. It is leafless and lifeless. The brittle branches are attached to the tree as if sympathising the tree for what is gone and never promised to return. Just a few yards away there is another tree standing in the same cruel surrounding. Both trees are almost similar just that the second tree has a yellow leaf still attached to it as if deluding the tree for what it possesses.

A white bed sheet, silky and smooth, is entrapped in curls of itself and a pair of hands. His hand is clenching her palm and the bed sheet in between.

And somewhere between their fingers a red rose is entrapped, waiting to be crushed, right then and right there, knowing this would be the only way to its freedom which would come when he would loose his grip on her when they both will be crushed like rose.

“That’s a boulder, heavy and shiny, absorbing the sunlight and getting hotter by time. If you zoom out you witness a pile of such boulder, arranged in pyramidal shape like a minor hill, erected in pride and heat. The pile is resting on a basket being held by two hands at the diametric ends, below which a rough, dusty face is looking straight and balancing the huge pile while a tall hill situated behind him is watching that little kid taking away its boulder.”

If you look through the window you will see some kids playing in the ground, green grass and a fountain. A football is in the air and all of them are looking at it. Their faces are happy and full of life.

There is a kid standing in a room full of darkness. His hands are holding the bars of window. He is also looking at the football and the sky behind it while a washcloth is lying next to him in the bucket full of dirty water.

Look at that hill and the sun behind it, radiating its glory and singing its pride. When you zoom out you see a roadside stall. People are busy in their usual routine. Washing, cooking, making tea.

At the centre, there is a nine-year-old kid sitting on a bench. His undershirt is pale due to dried sweat and his skin is suntanned. His hands are rough and wrinkled. The sweat drops on his hair tips are shining like diamonds of a king’s crown.

He has a cup of tea and a biscuit dipped in the cup.

A same age boy sitting next to him is looking at him with satisfied face while everyone else is still busy in their daily routine, washing, cooking and making tea.

“A LONG STREET. At the corner, burning bicycle wheel whose rim is coated with blood. Hustle of people going and coming across. Splattered blood on the pavement. A few dead bodies, here and there. A few body parts, here and there. A crying son near his dead mother. A crying mother near her dead son. A mother breastfeeding her infant and looking at both of them with numb face.”
